2023 Cricket World Cup Country Analyses: Pakistan

Updated: Jul 15, 2023

The Cricket ICC ODI World Cup’s fixtures have been released. The countries competing have been announced.

10 teams across the globe will compete and only one country can walk out victorious. Here I will assess each countries teams in depth.

Pakistan

ICC ODI Ranking: 2nd

Recent form (last 6 matches): 4 wins and 2 losses

In international cricket, Pakistan is noted for being unpredictable and erratic. They have had periods of brilliance and success in the Cricket World Cup, winning it in 1992 and making it to the final in 1999.

Pakistan has a long cricketing history and has produced several outstanding players over the years. They have a rich bowling legacy, with notable figures in the game including Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar. Pakistan has also produced outstanding spinners such as Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed, and Yasir Shah.

Pakistan has produced talented batsmen in the past, including Javed Miandad, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Yousuf. Babar Azam has recently emerged as one of the world's best batsmen and is considered the backbone of Pakistan’s batting line up.

Pakistan hasn't played very well in recent Cricket World Cups, though. On their best days, they have demonstrated the potential to defeat elite opponents, but they have also occasionally struggled with inconsistency and performance issues. Their hopes of experiencing continuous success in the competition have been hampered by their inability to constantly perform at their best.

Pakistan has always been a team that can surprise opponents and pull off upsets, though. They have a mixture of seasoned players and up-and-coming talent, and if they can strike the perfect balance and play up to their potential, they might be a force in the Cricket World Cup. Pakistan have some games to play before the World Cup with 2 test matches away to Sri Lanka and then host the Asia Cricket Cup against other teams like India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Pakistan first game will be New Zealand and their final game will be against England.
